SpokenBlackGirl.com seeks works that express the authentic mental health and wellness experiences of Black women, girls, and femmes from across the world. Topics can include mental health, neurodivergence, disability, motherhood, self-care, body awareness, hair, beauty, race, gender, sexuality, family, spirituality, health & healing, inspiring stories and tributes, unusual experiences, etc. 

Poems can be narrative, experimental, prose poetry, video poems, and visual poetry as well. Surprise us with your insights, your creative vision, and your skill with language. 

We seek personal, transparent essays about identity, life experiences, growth, healing, self-love, and reclaiming life after setbacks. Send us your mental health personal essays, feature stories on individuals and organizations involving women of color in the mental health field, mental health perspectives on pop culture, and current events as well as tips for inspired living are welcome.

We encourage emerging writers to submit. Your work doesn't have to be perfect. Our editorial team will work with you to polish your piece. What's most important is your authentic voice.

Spoken Black Girl Magazine welcomes submissions exploring mental health, wellness, healing, and the lived experiences of Black women, girls, and femmes. Issue 7 is a general issue that calls back to our founding mission of mental health awareness. We are particularly interested in work that introduces new perspectives on healing, examines ancestral wisdom through a contemporary lens, and uplifts the voices of Black women writers, artists, and storytellers. We welcome interviews and articles featuring artists and writers, personal essays, poetry, fiction, photography, and visual art. 

Submission Requirements:

For poetry, please submit 3-6 pieces.

3000 words or less for essays, articles, and fiction.

Visual artists & photographers may submit 3-6 pieces in a single PDF. 

Submissions are free. 

Accepted submissions will receive a $25 honorarium.
